Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to attempt a historicisation of Emilia Giancotti’s thought. On the basis of a recent conference held in Urbino on the thirtieth anniversary of her death, and of the reorganisation of her works by Daniela Bostrenghi and Cristina Santinelli, it aims to describe Giancotti’s research environment. To this end, the essays included in her book Studi su Hobbes e Spinoza are briefly reviewed, highlighting their main theoretical issues. Finally, a brief comparison with Antonio Negri’s interpretation of Spinoza will be made, reflecting on Giancotti’s importance in the field of the Spinoza studies of the 1970s and 1980s.
