The article focuses on the practical function attributed to reason by Spinoza’s Ethics. It seeks to provide an answer to the following questions. What is it that Spinoza calls the “model of human nature” and what are the means that favour its realization? How can this model escape the arguments that seem to make the use of any model meaningless, thus applying itself to all men in a non-extrinsic way and without generating conflicts? And what is the role of reason in accomplishing this model and peaceful human relations?
